Up-cycle Home Project Ideas with Mairi Helena Wallpaper
Over the Easter weekend, we made a spur of the moment decision to up-cycle an old book shelf with my Forest Light Wallpaper and Craig & Rose 'Eggshell ‘Pentland’ paint to complement.
Here is an easy step-by-step guide on how we created the piece, for all those considering a DIY up cycle home project over the coming weeks.
Sand down your chosen piece of furniture, remember to go in the direction of the grain of wood. Then wipe down with a damp cloth
Choose a complementing paint colour to use alongside your wallpaper. If you’re looking for paint inspiration to use alongside my Mairi Helena wallpaper collection, then I have included three paint suggestions with each listed wallpaper on my website. I recommend using an eggshell paint for woodwork.
Lay out your chosen wallpaper. Measure using a set square.
For this particular piece of furniture the shelves were fixed in position and so the project becomes divided into thirds. First we cut our two wallpaper drops. Then we measured the drop of each third and marked where to cut on our pre-cut wallpaper drops.
Paste the back of your unit (not the wallpaper) with a good quality, solvent free, ready-mix tub adhesive.
Work from top to bottom and once finished, wipe over with a damp cloth.
There you have it! A brand new book shelf in which to style and enjoy!
