I'm not long back from exhibiting at The House & Garden Festival held at London's Olympia where I had a fab time showcasing my Mairi Helena Collection of fabrics, wallpapers, velvet cushions and linen lampshades! The House and Garden Festival is the ultimate celebration of Summer living showcasing 550 beautiful garden, interior and lifestyle brands to an enthusiastic crowd. Combine this with bespoke decorated spaces from industry leading interior designers, as well as expert talks and workshops from colour to detailing plus an exhibition portraying 'seven decades of style' in celebration of House & Garden's 70th anniversary, this is a festival that no interior enthusiast should miss.So having absorbed all things faux flower, lavish lighting, sumptuous furnishings and bespoke fabrics, I've put together a blog which focuses on SIX things to consider when looking gathering ideas for decorating a room in your home.GIVE EVERY ROOM A BUZZ WORDIt's lovely when each room has a story to tell. Maybe this might come across in a theme, or focus on a word or a feeling. Gather pictures, colours charts and motivating words and create a mood board to trigger ideas based around a concept.Mood board featuring Mairi Helena Grey Tailor Thistle Velvet Cushion TRAVEL AND GATHER

It's great to pick up inspiration from your adventures. Whether that's a colour palette that might influence your new interior from landscapes travelled or perhaps an object found on the beach or maybe a poster that acts both as a souvenir and a feature for the wall.UPCYCLE AND LUXECYCLEConsider how you could give an old, tired piece of furniture a new lease of life and create a new, quirky talking point for the room.Pictured above: Vintage G-Plan Sideboard in Mairi Helena Fine Art Pink Thistle Wallpaper - a collaboration with innovative and creative furniture up-cycler Zoe from Muck N BrassCREATE COLLECTIONS

Create collections for display. This could be collections of a theme for example a group of flowers in vases, or a collection of vintage mirrors  or an eclectic mix of ornaments that share a colour palette. Play with volume and numbers, sometimes with collections more is more! Remember to consider styling objects with different heights and create layers.Picture above featuring Mairi Helena Bronze Flush Thistle Wallpaper and Bronze Flush Velvet Feather CushionMIX TEXTURESVary your textures to vary the scene. Mix natural authentic wood with sleek brass or shiny copper. Add fabrics, both patterns and plains.
