A list of the seven best Edinburgh Second Hand Furniture Shops
Today, I am on the search for a second hand antique sofa in which to upholster and up cycle. I have a rough idea of the style I am after. I'm thinking vintage-style, curvy lines, perhaps some fancy legs, detailed woodwork, possibly a two seater sofa. I am not too concerned about the current fabric condition as it's my mission to upholster with my own fabric designs. So where on earth to I begin to find such a second hand furniture piece in Edinburgh? Well, I have a few places I have discovered over the past few months from renovating our own home with second hand bits and bobs. So I thought I would share with you my list of the best second hand furniture shops that I have found in Edinburgh.
here are some of the stops to check out on your second hand furniture shop journey!
First Stop:Samuel Burns & Co Woodend, Prestonpans, EH32 9SAA amazing local clearance and second hand furniture stop off. Good for office furniture, bric-a-brac and MATTRESSES - tons of them.SECOND STOP:
Best Tip: Buy an all day bus & TRAM ticket so you can hop on hop off THE ROUTES I'VE SUGGESTED BELOW!
Architectural Salvage Yard 146 Duddingston Road, Edinburgh, EH16 4AP
I love looking around the Architectural Salvage Yard out at Duddingston. Dedicated areas for wooden doors (I've never seen so many all together!), fireplaces and stoves, old radiators, brassware, baths (Including a tartan bath!! How amazing is that!)
THIRD STOP:
Lane Sales at Ramsay Cornish 15-17 Jane Street, Edinburgh EH6 5HEI recommend going along on a Thursday morning at 11am where Ramsay Cornish have their vintage lane sales! You can pick up some real bargains. Also frequent collectors auction sales. Definitely worth a visit.FOURTH Stop:Inverleith Salesroom, 22 Montagu Terrace, Edinburgh EH3 5QRA great collection, helpful staff and a friendly pooch with his own section complete with comfy bed in a corner of the shop! The advantage of Inverleith Salesroom is that they have a brilliant Facebook page where you can keep up to date with their posts about latest deliveries and offers. If you see something that you like then you can get in touch via Facebook to earmark an item and then arrange to see it at their showroom. Extra bonus is that they offer free delivery within the city diameter.FIFTH Stop:Edinburgh Furniture Initiative in Cannon Mills, 67A Logie Green Road, Edinburgh EH7 4HF (or Sight Hill warehouse)A good find if you're after a warehouse full of furniture and an open mind! If you're looking for an upcycle project, you can find some real bargains here.SIXTH STOP:Bethany Shop on Hamilton Place, 46 Hamilton Place, Edinburgh EH3 5AZ (also Morningside, Summerhall or Newington)If you are in the right place at the right time, then you can find yourself a brilliant furniture find at Bethany's, with the money going to a fantastic charity the Bethany Christian Trust supporting the homeless.SEVENTH STOP:Shapes 1-3 Bankhead Medway, Edinburgh EH11 4BYI love any excuse to visit Shapes out at Sighthill. It's mind boggling how big this shop is, it seems to stretch on and on, like an optical illusion! The shop entrance doesn't depict how big this shop really is! This furniture shop is great if you're looking for quality, antique furniture with a good finish - the items carry a higher price tag but you get what you pay for! And the choice is wonderful.
And the outcome to my travels.....well you'll just have to keep tuned in for the big reveal!
MY MAIRI HELENA SOFA PROJECT IS WELL AND TRULY UNDERWAY!
I'm looking forward to showing you the next instalment of my sofa journey upholstered in my Mairi Helena fabric. I am very excited, it's very difficult to keep it under wraps!!!!!!
