5 Reasons why Abstract Art Wallpaper in the bedroom is the ultimate luxury
We’ve started our own home interior design project in our flat in Edinburgh -
and it's becoming a Design Pad!
If you’ve been following the blog recently, then you’ll know that we have been lavishly painting our BEDROOM BLUE having got hooked on the roller coaster ride of designing, renovating and decorating our flat in Edinburgh.
It’s been a riveting ride and we now have THREE ROOMS on the go to share ideas and the lessons gained.
Alongside GOING BOLD AND GOING BLUE in the bedroom, you may have been following the progress of the living room recently where we recently very eagerly revealed our feature wall. We have also started work on our Moroccan themed bathroom (await the plans for a Moroccan wall stencil, a vanity unit make-over in wooden decorative lattice as well as TURQUOISE TILES!)
NEW UPDATE!!!
BEDROOM MAKEOVER
And with the walls, skirting boards and ceiling painted, carpet taken up and windows given a new lease of life, it has finally come to the stage of
HANGING MY Mairi HelenaPINK THISTLE ABSTRACT ART WALLPAPER!
Wallpaper Design Story
I have designed my thistle wallpaper through taking elements of my photographic portfolio of Scotland to produce an abstract surface pattern print featuring pinks, yellows and hints of blues. I wanted to combine tartans and Scottish flora and fauna together in a novel way to produce a luxury, fine art print with sophistication and contemporary style. I'm hugely influenced by my surrounding Scottish landscapes, wildlife and rustic colours and love creating fresh, bold designs to apply to Scottish interiors.
It's been so exciting seeing my Scottish abstract designs develop into wallpapers and love the opportunity I'm currently having to create my
very own art background for the bedroom
The wallpaper has helped us to choose a bedroom colour palette. It's encouraged us to be BOLD and go with a punchy teal blue, where the pinks and yellows in the wallpaper will really strike off and pop against the contrasting walls. It's also helped with the bedroom decorating and styling ideas which we're developing and collecting.
We're aiming for a modern contemporary master bedroom with POPS OF COLOUR in GOLD, PINKS AND YELLOWS from the walls and the furniture. We're aiming to create an art feature background helping to bring a subtle Scottish touch in an artistic, abstract way. We're also looking to bring a splash of classic shabby chic, with vintage style frames and mirrors. We're aiming to combine a bit of luxury with classic style but with a modern, artistic twist.
In fact, the development of the pink thistle abstract wallpaper has really helped to focus our design decorating ideas for the bedroom. It's helped us gather our decorating thoughts and inspiration for the style of the room.
So here's the photographic record of both myself and hubby Richard hanging our pink thistle abstract wallpaper:
A tea break...
Our finished wallpapered wall which I am now calling our
ABSTRACT ART BACKGROUND
The pinks and yellows strike off the teal blue walls opposite. It's bold but that's how we like it! A bit daring and a bit different.
And now that the wallpaper is up on the bedroom walls, we can set to work styling and accessorising......keep your eyes peeled for more on this to come!
So I can conclude that there are 5 MAIN REASONS why you should consider a designer wallpaper for your own room:
1. You immediately have created your own ART BACKGROUND and created a FEATURE and FOCUS for the room
2. It helps you to consider a bold, striking colour and gives you the confidence for a paint choice that you may never have even considered before
3. You can play on colours and pick out hues for the curtains, bed spreads and rugs
4. It can have the same effect as a striking piece of framed wall art
5. And more to the point, because it's FUNKY, a little bit daring and a little bit different.
