Check out luxury Scottish textiles and fashion at Paisley Make!
So I am just back from setting up my stand at Paisley Make, an exhibition and 4 day event looking to celebrate Paisley's amazing pattern collection as well as helping to put Paisley firmly on the map!
Curated by the wonderful Scotland Re:Designed, the event also brings together a collection of talented Scottish fashion and textile designers across the country. Over the next four days, Scottish designers and makers are showcasing at a wonderful exhibition held within the majestic interiors of Paisley Abbey. I have been very privileged to be included as an exhibitor amongst some well established, highly regarded names such as Elizabeth Martin Tweed, Siobhan MacKenzie Kilts and Natasha Marshall.
The event aims to celebrate Paisley's textile heritage and take the visitors on a journey of discovery into Paisleys rich textile history. The event is also helping to raise awareness of Paisley's cultural assets; the town is currently working towards a huge push for a bid for UK City of Culture 2021.This morning I was lucky enough to visit the Paisley Museum where textiles curator Dr Dan Coughlan took us on a tour of Paisley's Archives. I was absolutely mesmerised by the intricacy and colours of these Paisley archives!
So if you're looking for an excuse for a trip to the West Coast, then may I recommend you head to Paisley, take a trip to Paisley Museum to see the Paisley collection for yourself and call in on the events and exhibition taking place at the wonderful Paisley Abbey. There's such a wide variety of events taking place such as origami workshops by Misty Concepts, Corsage Making by Siobhan MacKenzie and guest speakers such as Mark Hogarth, creative director of Harris Tweed Hebrides and Penny Martin, writer and editor of The Gentlewoman and I. And do remember to check out my stand within the showcase too view a taster of my Mairi Helena collection - look out for my Pink Thistle Velvet fabric upholstered chair!!
