Introducing Design Up Scotland

Where do you go to look for Scottish brands offering luxury interiors? Do you look online? Trail the web? Have a ‘go-to’ independent store? Secret haunts? Word of mouth?

Sourcing Scottish Interiors was something that I struggled with when looking to decorate our Edinburgh flat, and probably paid a large influence to the development of my interiors label

We moved into our first home just over a year ago and immediately it opened me up to the wonderful world of interiors. Suddenly I had a blank canvas from which to decorate. Walls cried out for statement wallpaper, many a feature light was swooned over and quirky furniture ideas were soon conjured into a dream room plan.

And after a flurry of decor thoughts and multiple mood boards ideas later, there was a definite slowing of pace when it came to trying to trying to find the interior accessories in mind.

I was prowling the internet looking for somewhere to go online to immediately find a wider source of unique Scottish interiors to decorate the home. Art work, rugs, fabrics, textiles, retail outlets for example.

And it’s not that independent Scottish retailer’s and makers offering boutique interiors don’t exist. Quite the opposite in fact. There's a vibrant interiors scene in

Scotland

but sometimes limited opportunity to meet face to face and make connections, with a lot of

design

networking, brand/publisher events being London based.

Using Instagram for Sourcing Scottish Interiors

It was as a result of a recent conversation with the fabulous Fiona Cameron from

Around The Houses

, a fellow Edinburgh based interiors blogger, that an idea to start an Instagram hashtag to help build a community representing luxury Scottish Interiors arose.

Instagram is a huge ‘go-to’ for gathering interior inspiration. And a search tool made easy thanks to hashtags galore.

Interior fanatics who connect on Instagram often go on to forge real life friendships, meeting to chat, shop or get creative together. But it's not always obvious where instagrammers are based.

We want to create an easy way of searching brands, retailers, interior stylists, interior bloggers, makers, designers within the country who all either create, write or produce Scottish interiors.

We would like this tag to act as a directory of Scottish interiors brand, but also create opportunities for making real life connections and collaborations to help the community thrive.
